He sits there
He's there every day
I used to not pay attention
I'd walk by without a glance
Seeing him there was commonplace
And warranted no surprise or curiosity
He always wears his suit
As if he's just some businessman stopping for a break
Most people would assume that
I know it's so that he might get a job
Look professional, even if you're not
But today he has a look of fierceness
A fire in eyes set in a gaunt face
He had been growing thinner, I realize with a start
It seems as though this is a last blaze for life
Before he is extinguished
I stop
Turn
Look him in the eye
"Hey."
He merely blinks
Probably a bit bitter knowing I pass him day after day
"You hungry?"
A small smile creeps across his features
He stands
I grin
"Let's go."
